The Victoria and Albert Museum (often abbreviated to the V&A) was opened in 1852 and was named after Britain's iconic monarch Queen Victoria and her consort Prince Albert. The Kensington-based museum has a permanent collection of 4.5million objects and is the largest museum of decorative arts and design in the world.
