Whether you're driving home after a day at the beach, nipping to a rural pub, or simply preparing for a fitness goal, there's often a time and a place where keeping your alcohol intake right down is crucial.

But if you're shuddering at the mere thought of those dodgy alcohol-free beer brands of the past, you'll be pleased to hear that these days there's a huge range of low-alcohol beers on the market. The vast majority come from mainland Europe, where they're making great strides in combating the perception of a lax drink-driving culture.

We sat down to taste and rate the UK's best low-alcohol beers and were then breathalysed using a digital breathalyser (by AlcoSense). Discover whether we were safe to drive and which got our driving thumbs up.
