CAA investigate engine failure
The Civil Aviation Authority is investigating whether engine failure could’ve caused the fatal plane crash on KZN’s south coast yesterday.
55-year-old Hazel Nash from Pinetown died at the scene.
She was a passenger on the light aircraft that crashed near Margate Airport just after take-off.
The pilot of the Rally aircraft was seriously injured and is recovering in Durban’s St Augustine’s Hospital.
They’re believed to have been returning to Cato Ridge after an aviation convention.
The Authority’s Phindiwe Gwebu says their team has already visited the crash site.
“Our investigators have gone to the scene of the accident at Margate and the purpose of the investigation is to uncover what the ultimate cause of the accident was.
“At this point we that the pilot did report experiencing some problems with the engine to the ATC, but the purpose of the investigation is to confirm and uncover any other thing that could have led to the accident yesterday.”
