Mpendulo Mzulwini died on Saturday after being stabbed in a fight at school on Friday.
The KZN Education Department says officials met with the family yesterday.
Mzulwini’s father had apparently gone to visit him in hospital on Saturday at about midday. When he returned home he received a call telling him to rush back there.
Tragically, the boy died before his return.
Mzulwini was stabbed when an argument with another pupil at Egagasini Secondary School pupil turned ugly.
The department’s Muzi Mahlambi says the other boy then left the school and returned with some friends who attacked Mzulwini.
“The MEC has sent his condolences, and has called on communities and society at large to join him in the fight to get rid of weapons and drugs at schools,” he said.
