Don't be complacent: Mantashe

ANC secretary general Gwede Mantashe has warned that the ruling party should never become complacent, SABC radio reported on Friday.

"I normally tell people that any brand is as good as its services. If you rubbish the ANC you can destroy it that way," Mantashe said at the Elijah Barayi memorial lecture in Carletonville, south west of Johannesburg.

"OK Bazaars was a strong brand in the retail sector, so strong that... it became complacent and it was sold for R1 to Shoprite Checkers and that brand disappeared," Mantashe said.

Barayi, who died in 1994, was a trade unionist and a president of the Congress of SA Trade Unions.
