"A week ago the hospital noticed mosquitoes in one of the theatres. The theatre was closed down over the weekend and was thoroughly disinfected," said spokesman Simon Zwane.
"The situation is now under control."
Democratic Alliance spokesman Jack Bloom said on Sunday that he had written to MEC Hope Papo and asked him to intervene, as people's lives were being endangered in the hospital's 14 operating theatres.
He claimed heart operations had been cancelled because of the major risk of infection to patients, as hospital management had failed to fumigate the theatres for more than three months.
"All 14 theatres are cleaned and fumigated regularly, especially after major operations," said Zwane.
