Renowned television and radio presenter Vuyo Mbuli will be laid to rest at West Park Cemetery in Johannesburg on Friday.

Mbuli,46, will have a state funeral where thousands of politicians, journalists, family members and members of the public are expected to pay their last respects.

The funeral will be broadcast live on SABC 2 and on the SABC website.

On Wednesday, mourners came out in their numbers at a memorial service held for Vuyo at the SABC's Renaissance building in Auckland Park.

Amongst those in attendance were first lady Bongi Ngema Zuma, Winnie Madikizela Mandela and the SABC’s Chief Executive Officer Lulama Mokhobo.

Mbuli's Morning Live co-presenter Leanne Manas addressed the gathered crowd with a eulogy, where she spoke of the wisdom he imparted upon her.

She said, while holding back tears: "It is amazing that when I first met Vuyo’s parents, I think they saw him through me, it is a good feeling because he taught me a lot of things in the years I have worked with him. Before we went on air Vuyo used to say let's go and do magic."

Mbuli, who had been a presenter for the SABC since 1993, collapsed last Saturday while watching a Super Rugby match between the Cheetahs and the Reds at the Free State Stadium. He later died at the Bloemfontein Mediclinic.
