Running - timekeeping

New electronic starting blocks (now with speakers beside them) ensure the runners hear the new starting gun at the same time.

A laser across the finish line helps determine when a runner has finished, with millisecond accuracy, whilst the timing console records the time.

There is also a communications system which sends the results and scores of the Olympic Games all over the world simultaneously.
