KUALA LUMPUR - A German pilot was rescued but three passengers remain missing after their helicopter crashed into a river on remote Borneo island in Malaysia, an official said Friday.
The privately owned helicopter went down near a small coastal town in Sarawak state in eastern Malaysia earlier Friday, a local police official told AFP.
He said the pilot was receiving treatment at a local clinic, while authorities were searching for two men and a woman who are still missing. He did not have any further details.
The Star daily reported that after the helicopter crashed into the river, the 35-year-old pilot managed to get out from the wreck and swam for four hours before being rescued by local fishermen.
In 2010, an American pilot was killed when his Sikorsky S-64 helicopter, carrying logs, crashed in Sarawak state. Most of Sarawak state is dense jungle.
