North West MEC China Dodovu, who has been implicated in the murder of a councillor in the region
"We cannot confirm or deny that. He is still MEC as far as the party is concerned," said African National Congress provincial spokesman Kenny Morolong.
He was responding to an SABC report that Dodovu had been suspended on Tuesday.
He is one of eight men accused of murdering ANC regional secretary Obuti Chika, 33, who was shot at point-blank range in the driveway of his Klerksdorp home on December 14. He died in a local hospital.
Six of the eight accused, including Dodovu, were granted bail by the Klerksdorp Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.
Dodovu was granted bail of R20,000. The other five granted bail are North West provincial ANC Youth League chairman Papiki Baboile, ward secretary Paul Molomonyane, councillor Itumeleng Molebatsi, municipal worker William Malefo, and taxi driver Kgotso Kali.
Dodovu was expected to hold a press briefing in Rosebank, Johannesburg, on Wednesday.
